Statement.
Wendie Zahibo's artistic approach focuses on the exploration of Caribbean identity and its resonance within a territory. By combining digital collage, photography and editing, she addresses themes of anchoring, nomadism and ancestrality, merging visual arts and documentary photography.
Using photography as a starting point, she uses it as an adaptable raw material for her experiments.
Through the technique of collage, she recovers and creates her own visual language, exploring concepts such as gender, displacement and identity. By disrupting the conventions of image-making, she offers a perspective that disrupts traditional practices.
By combining images from diverse backgrounds in a surreal way, the collage establishes unusual links between disparate worlds, creating a unique visual syntax that challenges our certainties.
Wendie Zahibo's works transform the contemporary diasporic experience by bringing to life worlds in movement. Coming from a multicultural family environment, she is inspired by African Caribbean cosmogonies to explore the visible and the invisible. Through the prism of magical realism, she invites multiple realities to intersect, thus engaging the viewer to actively participate in her work.
