Biography
Wendie Zahibo is a visual artist and poet originally from the Ivory Coast and the Central African Republic who was raised in Guadeloupe. Her work and research explores the experiences of Black women, particularly in the French-speaking Caribbean and France.
In 2015, Wendie self-published a beautiful first book titled Reines Des Temps Modernes and founded the media platform of the same name. Over the last seven years, she has met and interviewed more than 200 Black women living across France, Canada, the West Indies, Guyana, Ivory Coast, Benin, Senegal or Cameroon.
The media platform Reines Des Temps Modernes allows her to navigate between podcasting, writing articles, editing videos, creating workshops and events.
In 2020, Wendie released her second book, Corsé de cuirs (Leather Corsage ), published by Neg Mawons. The book is an ode to the femininity, desires, and struggles of Black women. It allows her to dive into the heart of sexuality and intimacy of the matter. A work following the publication of his podcast Sexuality Matter (2018).
Since 2021, Wendie has been pushing the boundaries of her visual art through the prism of mural collage, digital collage, and photography. Her work is in line with Afro-surrealism. She is currently preparing her first solo exhibition surrounding the themes of freedom, colonialism, identity and pleasure in the French Carribean context through exploring the importance and the limitations of internal and external walls.
